The History behind the Eiffel Tower.

The function of the Eiffel Tower is to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution that refers to the period that began with the Estates General of 1789 and ended in November 1799 with the formation of the French Consulate. Many of its ideas are considered fundamental principles of Western liberal democracy. and to demonstrate France's industrial prowess to the world. According to Melissa Locker in the magazine Travel+Leisure she states importance about the construction and the purpose of the structure “ the Eiffel Tower was built as “a symbol of technological prowess, at the end of the 19th Century it was a demonstration of French engineering, and a defining moment of the industrial era. As France’s symbol in the world, and the showcase of Paris”.This demonstrates the big historical significance this structure has in the “ City of lights”. To summarize the real meaning of the Eiffel Tower is to give the memories for all of those people who one day fight in the French Revolution and as a reminder for the French power in industries. The form of the Eiffel Tower supports the function because the pyramid is a very efficient way to design structures relying on strength and stability where the triangles act with much more capacity. According to Atish Bhatia in the website explains how the purpose of the structure has a connection with the form because“This is a very efficient way to engineer structures by relying on the inherent strength and stability of triangles.” This shows how the triangle form makes a stronger structure and at the same time gives honor to France's industrial prowess by using iron to construct the tower. The tower demonstrated that metal could be as strong as stone while being lighter. They wanted to create a strong structure , for that reason they chose the most powerful shape “ A triangle” . In summary, thanks to the way that the structure was built , we have an Eiffel tower to remember. The cultural history behind the Eiffel Tower tells us about how important and significant this structure is and how it is a symbol for power, union and strength in the base of France's industrial revolution.
