The American Banknote Company Printing Plant's plaque
The American Banknote Company Printing Plant designated as New York City historical landmark
Designed by Kirby, Petit and Green and built from 1909 to 1911, this architecturally significant factory housed the printing and engraving operations of the American Bank Note Company for 75 years and was a catalyst for continued development in Hunts Point. Built at a time when industrial engineering was expressed in the design of industrial buildings, the three-building complex embodies a sense of strength and efficiency. The crenellated tower rising above Lafayette Avenue, the massive brick piers forming multi-story arcades, and saw-tooth skylights throughout add to the unique character of the property.
