Scream (1996)

Scream (1996) takes place at a small fictional town called Woodsboro, California. This movie begins with a high schooler Casey Becker begin murdered in her own home by a mysterious psycho killer named "Ghostface". After Casey's death, Ghostface begins to terrorize and hunt down fellow high schooler Sidney Prescott. While Ghostface is trying to get to Sidney; News anchor Gale Weather and the Deputy, Dewey Riley try to uncover the mystery of Ghostface's identity.

The creation of Scream (by Director Wes Craven) had lead to the subgenre of slasher movies being revived. He's movie mixed both horror and satire, making fun of past slashers movies that already existed in the genre. Craven's ability to create a movie that was able to make fun of itself while still being able to be frightening showed how great of a director he really was. Scream had become so popular that there was a whole new wave of Scream copycat movies to follow like Urban Legend (1998) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). Scream current has 6 movies in its franchise, a seventh one on the way.

Wes Craven worked on Scream's 1 through 4. Sadly though at the age of 76 Craven had unfortunate passed away due to brain cancer on August 30th, 2015. Wes Craven will always be known as an icon in the horror community. He's witty yet intricate screenwriting and directing solidifies he's impacted in the horror genre.
