This is the backside of the photograph of Khachig Vartanian
Vilayet of Bitlis/Paghesh
1890
This is the backside of the photograph of Khachig Vartanian. Khachig arrived in Bitlis with a group of 30 orphans during the famine that followed the Russo-Turkish War.
He was enrolled in the George C. Knapp Academy at Bitlis and went on to attend the seminary at Kharpert where he graduated in 1890. He was always "Khachig, a native of Sassoun" to the missionaries and a great source of pride for Charlotte and Mary Ely.
