S.C Cuomo vs. McConnell
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pronounced that he supports letting states declare bankruptcy as Democrats seek more federal funding. Based on what I read it demonstrates, Mitch McConnell did not want the stimulus package to be given for the people. McConnell said, “There’s not going to be any desire on the Republican side to bail out state pensions by borrowing money from future generations.” This tells us he does not want the federal government to borrow wealth from the next generations to assist the states. He is bringing political anger and bias during this pandemic. As a result, all the majority leaders are against Governor Andrew Cuomo because he wants to help his community but it seems that Mitch McConnell does not care about the population who are dying. The only thing he cares about is how they can bring back the economy. In contrast, Cuomo says, McConnell wants to divide the nation politically where people are dying. He is not thinking about what the human being is going through. In my opinion, if the states use the bankruptcy route, this can cause many Americans to have trouble feeding their families and paying rents. This tells us that most American's life would be in danger due to not getting help from the government. Therefore, I agree with what Cuomo believes because he cares about the difficulty that people are facing right now rather than bankrupting the state's government. He also cares about the healthcare, workers, and the people that are in the front line who are helping others during this pandemic rather than McConnell who wants to declare bankruptcy to reduce their financial obligations which indicates how irresponsible he is! In the article, Samuel Stebbins speaks about how much money each state receives from the federal government. He says New York is receiving -$2,343 per resident where Virginia is receiving $10,301 per resident. This shows Virginians are getting more benefits than New York even though New York has a lot of people from different income levels. Since the world knows America is the richest country in the world. Therefore I wonder why people are facing economic problems.
