Breonna Taylor
Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old African-American emergency medical technician, was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department officers on March 13, 2020. Three LMPD officers executing a no-knock search warrant stepped into her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky. Breonna's death has caused millions of people to protest such as the George Floyd protests as well.
Activists are calling on people to "Say Her Name" as part of a movement to recall black women who have not attracted the same awareness as other cases. On Friday, when Breonna would have turned 27, people gathered for a vigil in Louisville and people shared birthday messages on social media writing, "you should have been here to celebrate". Three officers have been placed on administrative leave, but no-one has been charged. Because of this, people demand all the officers responsible for Breonna's death to be charged.
People expressing their sadness, horror and anger about racism in the US have been sharing pictures of Breonna on social media. More than five million people have signed a petition calling for justice. As demands for racial equality continue, many want Breonna Taylor's name to be remembered.
