After his brothers death, Charles began to lose his eyesight. By the age 7 he was blind, and his mother had sent him to a school in St. Augustine Florida where he learned to read, write and arrange music in Braille. He also learned how to play many Instruments such as the piano, organ, sax ,clarinet and trumpet. After graduation from the Saint Augustine School, Charles traveled across Florida and performed with country and western bands.Charles's mother died when he was 15, and for a year he toured on the "Chitlin' Circuit" in the South. While on the road, he picked up a love for heroin. At the age Charles moved to Seattle. There, he met Quincy Jones. A friend and collaborator he would keep for the rest of his life.

During Ray Charles Life

Ray Charles is a good musician. But he had a lot of struggles in his life, He ended up doing lot’s of drugs. It got so serious that his wife sent him to a rehab facility.
While he was in rehab it was hard for him to stay away from drugs. Every night he would be strap to his bed because the nurse did not trust him out of his room.
Ray could not stop thinking about his brother's death and why it had happened. Every night he would have flashbacks of the incident. He would see blood, scary things, and his brother's death and many more that will leave you traumatized. Ray Charles really has been through alot in his life he went to jail, for having the possession of marijuana and heroin in 1960. Instead of him going to jail he had received five years probation.

Although Ray Charleswent through a lot he became very successful. The fact that he was blind it did not stop him from doing what he loves, which is making music. Sadly Ray Charles had died but he still inspires people and to this day people still listen to his music. For that reason Ray Charles inspired me to never give up no matter the situation. Ray Charles taught me that if you give up you would never become successful.
