This time lapse video shows how clans evolved in Scotland over a period of almost 1,000 years.
As far as i know, my family is from the very north of Scotland, where the Sinclair and Mackay clans have dominated since the first days of Scottish clan membership.
Apparently all these clans would have waged battles against each other incessantly, until Scotland was officially unified with England to form the United Kingdom (UK) in 1707.
What struck me is the number of well-known names that are of Scottish origin; if you watch the entire video, you will recognize so many illustrious names in world history.
My theory is that Scots live in a relatively hostile land and climate - a lot of rocks - and therefore have always had a very strong incentive to travel the world.
