The Killing of Alex Pretti

It appears that Minneapolis, Minnesota, birthplace of Prince, is a city where tragically violent events kick off nation and world changing movements.

Once again, for the second time this month of January 2026, another person has laid down their life in defense of the best and most human values that America represents.

Despite our deepest flaws and contradictions, we have been the light of the world and a beacon of hope for countless people yearning for equality and the opportunity to live a decent life.

Isn't that an awe inspiring attribute that we Americans can be so deeply grateful for? That we can wear as a badge of honor, that we the people of the United States, are willing to come together and uphold human rights and civil liberties for all human beings....?

Heather Cox Richardson is a historian and scholar of American studies at Boston University who writes and speaks about current events through the lens of History. She talks to her audience twice a week via YouTube and I listen to her as the only source where I can find hope and a sense of balance as she relates our History to the present moment.

"I suspect when he woke up this morning, Alex Pretti didn't expect that he was going to become written into the History books, and I bet he would prefer not to have been, but those of us who are still here can continue to carry that torch forward." - HCR

Rest in Peace Alex Pretti, Renee Good, George Floyd and countless others...
